Install git from git-scm.com or your package manager (brew install git on macOS, apt install git on Debian and Ubuntu, winget install Git.Git on Windows). Open a terminal and run git --version; any version from the last few years is fine. Then tell git who you are: git config --global user.name and git config --global user.email with the address you will use on GitHub.

Usually comes after: [Before you start](https://gradus.kazet.blog/tree/bootstrapping/step/before-you-start).

Leads to: [A GitHub account](https://gradus.kazet.blog/tree/bootstrapping/step/github-account).
